Our screenings are friendly and easy. From the Welcome Desk to your last screening of the day, here is what to expect. The entire process takes about 60-90 minutes, including wait times between tests.
Screening preparation includes dressing comfortably and fasting (depending on which package you’ve selected).
A technologist will place a transducer with gel on your neck to survey the carotid arteries.
A technologist will place a transducer with gel on your abdomen and scan from the rib cage to the level of the umbilicus (belly button) to survey the abdominal aorta.
A technician will place blood pressure cuffs around your arm and ankles, listen with a Doppler for the sound of the artery, and take blood pressures, in order to determine the ankle to brachial index.
A technician will place 6 “stickers” (electrodes) under your collarbones and on your lower legs to obtain an EKG (heart rhythm and rate) tracing to identify Atrial Fibrillation.
A technician will place with gel over the upper tibia bone (shin bone) to determine the thickness of the bone and derive the bone density.
Blood tests are done by finger prick. The technician will clean your middle or ring finger and place the lancet to the side of the center of your finger.You will feel the finger prick but it should be minimal discomfort.
Other measurements taken may include blood pressure, height, weight, and waist circumference.
